Team USA did what it needed to do to preserve its lead in the FIM World Trophy team competition at the 2016 ISDE in Navarra, Spain, today, making American motorcycle history by winning the most prestigious prize in enduro racing for the very first time. Great Britain finished second, three minutes and 38.86 seconds behind while the Czech Republic rounded out the podium.

“For us to win it is awesome,” Thad Duvall said. “It’s been a long road for me and Taylor [Robert] and even Kailub [Russell]—he’s been around for a couple years, too—so it’s a cool feeling and it’s been real nice having that fan base back home cheering us on all week long.”

Leading from Day One, the team of Duvall, Robert, Russell and Layne Michael (the last-minute replacement rider for Ryan Sipes, who was injured the day before the team was scheduled to fly to Spain) coped with the pressure, and managed bikes and bodies perfectly, as well as turning competitive times in each special test.

The icing on the cake had to be Robert riding fast enough in his final motocross test on the last day at the Circuito de los Arcos to become the fastest individual rider overall. After winning his E2 moto, he beat Australian World Trophy team rider and E3 entrant Daniel Sanders by 17.90 seconds after six days of tests in varying conditions.

In the FIM Junior World Trophy division, Sweden added to its lead with excellent final moto rides by its trio of riders under 24 years old, the U.S. team settling for second, just 45.23 seconds behind with Italy third.

Though ISDE newcomer Maria Franke from Germany became the fastest of the FIM Women’s World Trophy riders, Australia won the team title for the fourth consecutive year, host nation Spain taking second and Germany third. Team USA’s Nicole Bradford, Tarah Geiger and Rachel Gutish finished fourth.

hough Josh Toth won his final moto, his Trail Jesters team (which included Ben Kelley and Jason Klammer) wasn’t able dislodge Italy from the top Club team spot. Eric Cleveland Memorial’s Alex Dorsey, Broc Hepler and Jimmy Jarrett claimed third.

JT Baker, Nate Ferderer and Ryan Powell of the Missouri Mudders moved up to fifth in the final standings, unofficially, with Tony Agonis Memorial (Kale Elworthy, Joey Fiasconaro and AJ Lehr) took ninth. Michigan Offroad Events (Mike Pillar, Luke Ross and Talon Soenksen) finished 19th and Elizabeth Scott Community (Dan Capparelli, Jayson Densley and Brian Storrie) ended up 21st out of 123 Club teams.
