2. Malcolm! The Autobiography, $49.95
This one didn’t make our Holiday Gift Guide when the book debuted, and that’s a shame because Malcolm Smith’s autobiography, appropriately named Malcolm! The Autobiography, is a timeless must-read for any dirtbike fan. In this coffee table-quality book, the legend himself tells his life story, complete with triumphs and tragedies, to respected motojournalist Mitch Boehm. It tells the whole tale, from Smith’s birth on British Columbia’s Salt Spring Island in 1941 to his first motorcycling experiences in junior high school and his first races shortly thereafter, the latter marking the birth of a motorcycling icon. Naturally, the whole story of Smith’s starring role in Bruce Brown’s On Any Sunday is also a big part of the book, as are Smith’s exploits in the Baja 500, Baja 1000 and the ISDE. Malcolm! The Autobiography is a bucket-lister for book worms, and it would be a welcome holiday gift.
