One of the prettiest venues on the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship circuit, Washougal MX Park has been a fixture in the AMA’s premier motocross series for over three decades.

Nestled in Washington State, Washougal has been hosting AMA National MX Championship events since 1980, and it represents the series lone visit to the Pacific Northwest. The track itself is beautiful yet very challenging, with a number of well-known sections including Horsepower Hill and the infamous Washougal whoops.

Only three non-American riders have captured an overall win at Washougal in the 34 years since the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship has been visiting the track. Australia’s Chad Reed won the 450cc class in 2009; New Zealand’s Ben Townley won the 250cc class in 2007, and France’s Marvin Musquin won the 250cc class in 2014.

Poulsbo, Washington’s Ryan Villopoto was the first rider from the Pacific Northwest to win at Washougal in the premier 450cc class, althouogh a pair of Pacific Northwest-born riders did claim victory in the 13 years of 500cc National MX competition held there. Eric Eaton, of Tacoma, Washington, won in 1985, and Chuck Sun, of Sherwood, Oregon, won at the inaugural event in 1980. Oregon natives Chris Alldredge, Justin Hill and Matt Bisceglia will each look to become the first Pacific Northwesterner to win in the 250cc class.

Current 450cc series points leader Ryan Dungey and motocross legend Ricky Carmichael share honors for the most wins at the Washougal circuit, with each rider having earned six overall wins between the 450cc and 250cc classes. Dungey could break that tie this weekend with an overall victory. A seventh victory would also make Washougal Dungey’s winningest track.

450cc Class Stats

-The first 450cc class race held at Washougal was August 14, 1983. Rick Johnson won on a Yamaha.

-Dungey has missed the overall win only once since 2008, dating back to his time in the 250cc class.

-Yamaha has not won at Washougal in the new millennium (last win in 1999). It last won when Jimmy Button claimed his first 450cc class win at Washougal.

-Justin Barcia, Blake Baggett and Andrew Short could add their names to the list of winners in both the 250cc and 450cc classes if one of them takes the overall this weekend. Each has a win in the 250cc class.
