Team owner Ron Purvines has confirmed long-standing rumors that his Purvines Racing off-road team will be aboard Yamahas backed by John Burr Cycles for the 2017 Western off-road racing season. The team’s switch to blue ends a four-year relationship with Beta.

While ending one relationship, Purvines also announced the beginning of another one. The team has been Purvines/DA8 Racing as Purvines has acquired the services of off-road legend Destry Abbott to handle rider training and development as well as be involved in sponsor inquiries. In addition, Kelsey Abbott will be in charge of PR and social media.

Purvines/DA8 Racing will continue into 2017 with newly crowned AMA Western Hare Scrambles Champion Nick Burson as well as returning team member Axel Pearson. Additionally, Purvines has added two riders to the team, Cooper Abbott and Gary Sutherlin. Abbott will race the AMA EnduroCross Series and other selected events while former WORCS Champion Sutherlin will focus on the AMA Hare & Hound Series as well as WORCS and other select events. The team is also currently looking into adding a few support riders, mostly through Chidester Transport Racing, which will become a bit of a feeder system and mostly support non-Pros.

I’m excited for 2017,” Purvines said. “I think we have a really good chance to win some championships.”

Though Yamaha allocated bikes to him through JBC, Purvines actually purchased the fleet of Yamahas their riders will be using, albeit at dealer cost. Additional team sponsors will include 6D Helmets, Acerbis, AME Grips, ARC Levers, BRP, Bullet Proof Designs, DDC Racing Sprockets, DP Brakes, DVS, Fasst Co., FMF, Funnel Web, GPR Stabilizer, IMS, Kenda Tires, Matrix, Maxima, Motion Pro, RAD Grafx, Rekluse, RK/Excel, Seat Concepts, Sidi Boots, SXS Skid Plate, Dubya USA, Works Connection, Zip-Ty Racing.
