Video: Ice Racing in Wisconsin

Ask Midwestern ice racers, and they know, some of the best racing happens at Sunset Tavern on Lake Koshkonong, Wisconsin.

Those dirtbike riders amongst us who never have to suffer freezing temperatures during the winter riding season don’t know what they’re missing.

When the weather turns cold on Lake Koshkonong, near Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, the real dirtbike riders get busy. Out come the studded (actually screwed) tires and onto the frozen lakes they go, having a whale of a time as they shred their way around the perfect-traction, frozen surfaces of the lake.

They’ve been coming for decades, as Sunset Tavern on Lake Koshkonong has provided the support and the ice grooming to give ice racers a place to ride and race. This promotional video on Freestyle Supermoto’s YouTube Channel is a prelude to the upcoming Wake The Monster 2017 two-hour endurance race. The event is being run at Sunset Tavern to benefit the Race For The Wounded, a charity that helps wounded veterans get involved in off-road racing. If you ever have the opportunity, you should try out ice racing. It’s cool in more ways than one.
