There’s no question that Yamaha unleashed a winner when it introduced its all-new 2014 YZ250F in 2014. The rearward- slanted, fuel-injected machine dominated 250cc MX shootouts and ultimately rewarded Yamaha with the 2014 Lucas Oil 250cc Pro Motocross Championship. For 2015, Yamaha has introduced two all-new models that carry the same winning DNA, the WR250F and a brand-new model, the YZ250FX.

The 2015 Yamaha WR250F and YZ250FX represent a complete turn away from the previous-generation YZ250F’s conventional engine architecture and now feature the latest revolutionary rearward slanted, fuel injected, 249cc, DOHC, titanium-valve configuration as the current YZ250F, housed in Yamaha’s bilateral beam frame and wearing its KYB Speed Sensutive System suspension. Of course, the off-road models differ from the motocross machine via their electric starters, aluminum side stands, 18-inch rear wheels, and wide-ratio transmissions that feature a sixth gear.

Each bike has been tuned specifically for its respective racing discipline. The 2015 WR250F is enduro/woods racer of this duo, and Yamaha engineers have developed its suspension settings, fuel injection, clutch and engine performance to.excel when the going gets tight. The WR250F comes with all the standard features needed to compete and win in enduro events, including a headlight, taillight, skid plate electric radiator fan and enduro computer. The WR250F is also “50 State off-road compliant” so you can ride all year round.

No longer carrying the burden of being Yamaha's only 250cc off-road competition model, the 2015 WR250F is more specialized than ever. Its tuneup was engineered specifically with woods and enduro riding in mind.

The all-new model YZ250FX is designed more for GNCCs, Hare Scrambles, Best in the Desert and WORCS races, according to Yamaha. Its suspension, fuel injection, clutch and engine character have all been tuned for when the riding gets fast, rough and rugged. Yamaha calls the YZ250FX a pure-bred off-road racebike. All it needs, they say, is gas and a rider to put it on the top of the podium where it belongs. We say we couldn’t be more thrilled that Yamaha has expanded its off-road lineup for 2015. It’s a good sign that Yamaha is not only being proactive in an upward-trending motorcycle market, but that it still believes in supporting customers who enjoy riding in the woods, the desert and other off-road environments. Can an all-new YZ450FX be very far away? We hope not!
