STI Tech 2 Pro

STI has actually been around for some time, but more dirtbike riders may know them from their awesome line of heavy-duty inner tubes than their actual dirtbike tires; that’s how we got turned onto them, through DirtBikes.com test rider Nic Garvin, who runs STI tires on his AMA National Hare & Hound machines.

However, STI has solid line of four-ply carcass knobbies to fit most common dirtbike tire sizes from minis on up. The flagship tire is the Tech 2 PRO, an intermediate terrain MX tire that uses what STI calls a varied-pitch tread pattern with fewer knobs at the center and a concentrated shoulder pattern to maximize performance in booth loose and packed conditions. STI also says that the carcass is strategically tuned for tension that provides the optimum balance of stiffness and flex to maximize contact patch and bump absorption.

The Tech 2 MXC may not be the flagship, but it is definitely STI’s anchor tire. It offers many of the features of the Tech 2 PRO along with an advanced rubber compound that is claimed to give the tires an exceptionally low wear rate. The Tech 2 MXC’s semi-wide tread pattern is designed for outstanding traction and control on both soft and hard surfaces. The tread volume is greater on the shoulder for enhanced cornering grip and acceleration. The Tech 2 MXC is available in a wide range of sizes, from 17-inch to 21-inch fronts, and 14-inch to 19-inch rears.

Like Tech 2 Pro, the STI Tech 2 DX was developed from the Tech 2 MXC, but it features a high-wear compound and a tread design that makes it DOT-legal for dual-sport riders. A slightly lower sidewall is used to maximize strength while offering high-mileage durability. The Tech 2 DX is available in 18-inch and 19-inch rear sizes and 21-inch front sizes.
