Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Romain Febvre won both MXGP motos to notch his fifth FIM Motocross World Championship win at the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic in Loket, Czech Republic, July 26.

Febvre excelled on a remodeled Loket circuit that included a new jump and corner section. Even so, the course, which is known for being slick and stony, still presented a technical challenge to the GP riders. The event drew 24,000 spectators, who watched as Febvre settled into second place behind Team Honda HRC’s Evgeny Bobryshev of Russia at the start of the first MXGP moto. Febvre kept pace with Bobryshev, waiting to make his bid for the lead when Bobryshev began to slow on laps six. From there, Febvre built a comfortable lead en route to the moto win.

Febvre had to work harder in moto two as he battled with Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Clement Desalle of Belgium. The two men swapped the lead briefly before Febvre pulled clear on lap seven of 19. Bobryshev also found his way past Desalle to finish 2-2 for second overall. Desalle went 3-3 for third overall.

With World Champion Tony Cairoli out of action for Loket (the Italian is also expected to miss the next round in order to have surgery on his fractured arm), Febvre now enjoys and an 88-point lead over Team HRC Honda’s Gautier Paulin.

Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube’s Valentin Guillod of Switzerland was fast all weekend and, despite crashing a number of times, put together 1-2 moto scores to notch his his third MX2 overall victory of the season and give the Blu Cru a sweep of both classes.

Round 14 of the series, the Grand Prix of Belgium in Lommel, Belgium, is scheduled to take place next weekend.
