Factory FMF/KTM’s Kailub Russell extended his AMSOIL GNCC win-streak to five-in-a-row (six if you count back to the end of last season) when he won the Limestone 199, round five of the 2015 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country presented by Maxxis, in Springville, Indiana, Sunday.

Russell claimed his 27th career GNCC win, and he moved into third place on the all-time GNCC motorcycle winner’s list, surpassing GNCC legend Ed Lojak, who earned 26 wins through his storied career.

This one didn’t come as easily for Russell as a lot of them have; he had to come from behind after crashing in the second turn. N-Fab AmPro Yamaha’s Jordan Ashburn grabbed the $250 All Balls Racing Holeshot Award and took the early lead wih with N-Fab AmPro Yamaha’s Grant Baylor and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Josh Strang running second and third respectively off the start. However, Rocky Mountain ATV*MC KR4/FAR Race Team’s Thad DuVall wasted little time making way into the lead after getting a mediocre start.

Russell was on the move, however, and he passed his way into the lead on lap four. Grant Baylor, whom many are predicting could be the next man to challenge the all-conquering Russell, latched onto the champion and battled him wheel-to-wheel for the rest of the 3-hour race. In the end, however, Russell held off the aggressive Baylor for the win. Baylor finished second.

DuVall and Ashburn, along with AirGroup/Rockstar Energy/Husqvarna’s Ryan Sipes, JCR Honda’s Chris Bach and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Andrew DeLong all challenged the lead pack through the early portions of the race before falling behind, leaving a four-way battle for third place. Strang would be challenged by the rough and rutted terrain to finish fourth just ahead of Ashburn. Sipes finished sixth place with Bach and DeLong finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.

In the XC2 class, Ryder Lafferty landed the $100 Hot Cams XC2 Pro Lites Holeshot Award with Raines Riding University/Atlas Yamaha/OffRoadViking.com’s Ricky Russell running second followed by Husqvarna Support rider Craig DeLong and Rocky Mountain ATV*MC KR4/FAR’s Nick Davis. MotoTech/KTM’s Trevor Bollinger quickly worked his way into the lead on lap one with DirtWise/Maxxis/KLIM-backed rider Jason Thomas in tow. Thomas was able to make his way through the pack after a bad start, and take the lead on lap four.

Davis moved into second place on the first lap, where he battled with Bollinger and DeLong as the top three battled bar-to-bar. Davis’s run ended when he had to be towed back to his pit with mechanical issues. Adding insult to injury, he had also run out of gas.

Thomas went on to take the win, adding to his XC2 class point. DeLong finished second, DeLong finished second and Ricky Russell finished third.
