TCX Boots Sweeps X Games Flat Track

Sammy Halbert, Jared Mees and Brad Baker prove their mettle with medal sweep for TCX boots at the 2017 X Games in Minneapolis.

July 14, 2017–The rivalry between Harley and Indian has been heating up on the flat track scene all season, but it came to a boil in Minneapolis during the X Games Harley-Davidson Flat Track Race. When the dust settled, it was Slamming Sammy Halbert taking his first X Games Gold medal, last year’s Gold medalist Jared Mees was second and Brad “The Bullet” Baker bagged the bronze. However, TCX was the real winner as every medalist opted for the gold standard of TCX at X Games.

All three racers went to the Mall of America track with something to prove on the 1/3 mile bullring!

“Last year my #1 goal was was to win X Games gold… nothing has changed,” said defending champ Mees. In his X Games debut in 2015, Mees was seconds from winning gold when he tossed a chain on the final lap. “To achieve my goal last year after what happened in 2015 was a dream come true.”

Apparently Slammin’ Sammy Halbert missed the memo.

The 2015 Silver medalist, Halbert came to X Games Milwaukee with a chip on his shoulder after finishing a disappointing 12th at X Games Austin in 2016. He was not to be denied! Halbert was fastest in practice, fastest in qualifying and absolutely dominated the first heat race, with a half a lap lead over Mees (7.154 seconds).

It was more of the same in the 20-lap main event. Mees had the holeshot, but Sammy slammed his way past by lap 4 and ran away with the win lapping his way up through the field on his old school XR750 Harley-Davidson.

“So stoked to get the Gold,” said the Xstatic Halbert after dominating the X Games Harley-Davidson Flat Track 20-lap main event. “We we’re really good as soon as we unloaded from the truck… the bike was so solid from the word go.”

Halbert admitted he was trying not to think about the medal during the race.

“I was trying to hit my marks out there, but it is going to be a fun weekend celebrating,” he said. “I couldn’t be happier!”

A last-lap blitz put Brad Baker onto the box, and gave Indian second and third on the evening. This was Baker’s third consecutive X Games Bronze medal. “I’m going to have to step up my game at X,” he joked. “Hats off to Sammy, we had nothing for him tonight.”

Slammin’ Sammy, Jammin’ Jared and The Bullet all put their stamp on Summer X decisively. Although they disagree on the track all three relied on TCX Boots to get up on the podium! From cutting-edge design, premium fit and comfort and unique features like Torsion and Double-Flex Control, the TCX podium sweep reiterates the brand’s “Focus On Boots” message. “Of course we had to add some Italian-style to our proven design,” says TCX R&D head Marco Poloni. “While we may have made a concession to the style-conscious X Games fans, it is still the performance that counts.”

For all their differences Sammy, Jared and Brad have something in common: Their TCX boots. See your local dealer for the boots that proved their mettle by sweep the X Games medals or get more details at: www.ridetcxboots.com
