The Top 10 Motocross Racers of All Time

Veteran motocross journalist Steve Cox assembles a list of the Top 10 Motocross Racers of All Time? Are you surprised who isn’t on it? So were we.

7. Broc Glover

  • 3-time 125cc National Champion
  • 3-time 500cc National Champion
  • 1981 Trans-USA MX Champion
  • Most 500cc wins in AMA history (19) along with 14 125cc wins

Without the Golden Boy, we may never have heard of Ricky Johnson, Jeff Ward or Ron Lechien. Glover was the first to come out of the El Cajon Zone in Southern California, which became a breeding ground for US motocross for about two decades. The fact that Glover holds the record for most 500cc National MX wins is made even more remarkable by the fact that he did it on air-cooled Yamahas that weighed about twice what he did. In 1988, he couldn’t get a new deal to race in the USA (although he still won the final supercross he ever raced, the 1988 LA Coliseum Supercross), so he went to Europe to race the 250cc World Championships for KTM. He struggled. But at the Grand Prix of Belgium in 1989, the final race of his career, Glover went out on top, wining the last moto of his career. It was the only checkered flag he ever collected as a professional on anything other than a Yamaha. Today, Glover works with Dunlop and can still be spotted sweeping up the pits or doing anything other than sitting still for a minute.
