DirtBike Trainer Video, Funny…But Not So Much

The Dirtbike Trainer video on FB might make you chuckle, but it might also make you think about what you can do to spice up your own moto training program.

Dirtbike Trainer

When we spied this video entitled Dirtbike Trainer on Forever Motocross’ Facebook page, we didn’t know whether to bust out laughing or it some serious thought.

Right off the bat, the comments on the Dirtbike Trainer video ranged from “How do I get one?” to “Use those moves on your wife or girlfriend in the bed.” In the end, perhaps the most poignant phrase was, “Looks silly. May Work.”

Dramatic music aside, Dirtbike Trainer shows a rider as he performs a series of maneuvers on what appears to be a fully rideable Kawasaki KX mounted on a heavy base plate with a large spring in his gym. He gyrates back and forth and then pretends to bend the bike into corners before pulling off what appears to be a balance drill.

The first time through, it was funny, but it got us to thinking about another such device used by Danny Walker’s American Supercamp to teach riders the basic mechanics of sliding a dirt track motorcycle before they actually went out onto the track and tried it for real. Walker’s device basically incorporates a dirtbike chassis mounted on a rocking horse-style arrangement, only instead of rocking back and forth, it rocks side to side, allowing riders to get into the proper dirt track stance for cornering. By doing so, riders learn exactly where to place their arms, legs and rump in order to maintain perfect balance no matter what the wheels are doing.

Point is, there is merit to the Dirtbike Trainer video, as it does exactly the same thing, only with motocross balance in mind. It would be a real hoot to try one for ourselves, especially if they made one with a slightly taller spring that would allow the wheels to keep from touching the ground. Then you could actually fire up the bike and practice some serious whip technique all in the warmth of your own garage. Just remember to keep the doors open!
