TM’s Eero Remes and Sherco’s Matthew Phillips have a heck of a battle going on in the 2016 FIM Enduro World Championship, and that battle continued as each man claimed a leg of the EnduroGP of Finland, round four of the FIM Enduro World Championship in Heino, Finland, last weekend.

Excelling in the rock-infested terrain of his home country, Remes bagged the EnduroGP class win on Day 1, while Phillips fought back to win it during Day 2. Remes, the defending Enduro 1 World Champion, had a strong opening day at the Heinola Motor Club-organized event, outrunning Beta’s Steve Holcombe by 24 seconds en route to the win. Holcombe finished second, 8 seconds ahead of KTM-mounted Nathan Watson, who also finished second behind Remes in the Enduro 1 class at the same time.

“It was a great day for me,” Remes said. “Winning and moving into the lead of the EnduroGP championship, it’s hard to have a better day. I started well and then pushed hard. Everything went well, I hope day two will be the same.”

Poor finishes in the special tests below-par tests left Phillips in fourth, ahead of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Mathias Bellino, Yamaha’s Loic Larrieu, Beta’s Alex Salvini. American hope Taylor Robert finished eighth aboard his Red Bull KTM. However, Phillips still landed the Enduro 2 class win. Holcombe won the Enduro 3 class, and Honda-mounted Giacomo Redondi won the Enduro Junior class.

On Day 2, Phillips found the speed he had been lacking on the opening day to post the fastest time of the day and claim the EnduroGP win along with another Enduro 2 class win. Phillips’ overall margin of victory on EnduroGP runner-up Remes by 9 seconds.

“Remes and Watson were pushing me hard for the overall win, which helped me get ahead in the Enduro 2 class,” Phillips said. “The day was difficult, but I just kept pushing and pushing. It was a great day, a really good way to finish the GP of Finland.”
Remes again topped Enduro 1 again. Despite a disastrous opening motocross test, Beta’s Johnny Aubert won the Enduro 3 class. Redondi dominated all but two special tests to sweep the Enduro Junior class.
