Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Jeremy Van Horebeek of Belgium will miss the Grand Prix of Europe in Valkenswaard, Holland, this weekend as well as the Grand Prix of Spain on May 10 due to an injury suffered in the GP of Trentino last weekend, according to his team.

The Belgian picked up the injury suffered a fractured bone in his left foot after crashing late in the second moto at the Pietramurata Circuit in Arco di Trento, Italy, last Sunday.

“The crash was not so bad, but I caught my foot under the bike when I fell and it twisted it badly,” Van Horebeek, the 2014 MXGP runner-up, said. “I had an X-ray, and the doctors could see an old injury and also a big new one where the bone is not completely broken but has a large crack.”

Van Horebeek has been placed in a cast which he will have to wear until May 11, one day after the GP of Spain at Talavera de la Reina, round six in the 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship schedule. The fracture is high in the foot and close to the ankle but after three weeks of rest is expected to return to start riding again, and he may be fit in time for the GP of Great Britain at Matterley Basin in England, May 24.

“For sure I am disappointed, but that’s life,” Van Horebeek said. “Last year was so perfect, and we came into this season hoping to be title contenders. I have the speed–so I am not worried–but I’ve been down too many times this year already. I want to come back and just focus on being as fast as I can possibly be.”

Van Horebeek is currently ninth in the MXGP standings, although his absence will most likely drop him down in the standings. Meanwhile, his Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube teammate, Romain Febvre, is currently fourth in the standings and will be looking to continue what has been a solid rookie season in te MXGP class at Valkenswaard.
