Romain Febvre, currently the hottest rider in the MXGP class of the FIM Motocross World Championship, has signed a contract extension to remain with the Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube team through 2017, according to the team.

The 23-year-old Frenchman has shown tremendous talent in his rookie season of the Motocross World Championship’s premier class. He earned his first career MXGP podium finish during round six in Spain and backed that up with a his first career overall win in France. It was no fluke, as Febvre earned back-to-back wins with his second overall victory at last weekend’s round in Maggiora, Italy. Febvre’s hot streak has vaulted him to third place in the MXGP standings.

Febvre graduated from the MX2 class in 2014 after finishing third in the championship and celebrating his first Grand Prix victory at Trindade in Brazil. He earned his first Grand Prix podium in 2013, and he is a former European Motocross Champion. He joined the Italian-based factory Yamaha MXGP team at the end of 2014.

“I liked how everybody was very close and got on well; it was like I was coming into a family,” Febvre said. “The team cannot do enough for the riders, and they always want to improve. Even when I came off the track and did the TV interview last weekend, we were already talking about parts where we can get better again. Of course, I’m happy to stay with Yamaha. They believed in me [enough] last year to sign a young rider from MX2, and for sure we have to be pleased with how everything has gone so far. I learn quickly, and I can adapt well, and I think this has helped.”

Yamaha Motor Europe Motocross Manager Erik Eggens said that extending Febvre’s contract was an easy decision.

“Romain came into our factory team very easily and effectively and his ability and work has really been showing in the last Grands Prix,” Eggens said. “He has been an excellent addition to the Yamaha structure and our racing family, and it is fantastic that we will be together for more time.”
