After claiming the 2013 2013 Rocky Mountain MC World Off-Road Championship at the previous round, Precision Concepts Kawasaki’s Robby Bell iced the cake with a win at the final round of the 2013 series at Buffalo Bill’s Casino in Primm, Nevada, on October 13. Bell claimed his fourth Pro class win of the season, while Moose Racing’s Bobby Garrison finished second and Justin Jones finished third. Meanwhile, RPM KTM’s Eric Yorba claimed his sixth win of the season in Pro 2 to wrap-up that class’ WORCS Championship.

Sunday’s race differed from most WORCS rounds in that both Pro ATV and Pro Motorcycles raced on the course at the same time to help shorten up the racing day and leave time for the afternoon awards banquet. The combined races would pose and added challenge for both the two- and four-wheeled competitors.

Bell started the race in third place and gained positions lap by lap. Navigating through the slower quads on the track, he found openings in the traffic to make his move for first on lap five. After wrapping up the championship at Honey Lake, Bell really wanted to finish out the season with a win, but Garrison wasn’t about to let Bell have an easy time of it. Garrison kept pressure on Bell for nearly the entire race, and in the Pro section, Bell nearly lost the lead when he crashed while negotiating a pavement debris pile. But Garrison also went down after landing on Bell’s rear tire. The pair raced to remount their fallen machines, and Bell was able to get going first. After that he held on to the lead and claimed the win.

“I’m glad I was able to regroup, get back out front and finally get a win,” Bell said. “I’m so stoked not only for myself and my whole team, my mechanic, and everyone who has been working hard all year. I am glad to start paying back with a win and finish off the season on top.”

Garrison’s second-place finish allowed him to wrap-up the second spot in points ahead of Jones.

“I wanted to get that win,” Garrison said. “I tried to give Robby a run, but he had a little too much for me. I got kind of tired and just tried to run my own race. I saw Jones reeling us in and really wanted to hold down second in the championship so that was my main this to stay in front of him.”

Jones rounded out the top three today and claimed fifth podium finish of the season. Jones actually grabbed the holeshot at the start of the race, and he held the lead through the first lap. Once Garrison and Bell made their way past him, Jones then found himself battling with Justin Seeds for the final spot on the podium. Seeds moved to within 2 seconds of Jones on the last lap and stayed in Jones’ shadow to the checkered flag, but Jones held on to third place.

Justin Jones (42) finished third at Primm. The race presented the additional challenge of combined two- and four-wheel classes on the track at the same time.

“Seeds and I were really going at it,” Jones said. “I think if we would have found each other early on in the race we could have mixed it up with the big boys, but that’s okay. We are rookies. and learned a lot, and plan on coming on hard next year.”

Tyler Renshaw finished fifth, followed by Gary Jones, aboard a Honda, who finished sixth. Renshaw gave a great effort on lap three and four to get around Seeds, but began to fall back securing his finish for the weekend earlier in the race.

In the Pro 2 class, RPM/KTM’s Eric Yorba claimed his sixth win of the year, which allowed him to wrap-up the Pro 2 class championship. Yorba pulled a commanding lead early on and locked down his win early. It was a close battle in points going into today with Starr Savage and Ty Tremaine, but the win allowed him to take the championship for the season.

“It came down to the last race,” Yorba said. “I knew what I had to do this weekend. I had a pretty bad start but just starting pushing to the front, built up a pretty good lead and rode away for another championship.”

Starr Savage finished second after starting in third behind Cole Nanney. Savage passed Nanney on the second lap. Nanney completed the top three. Ty Tremaine finished fourth, ahead of Brody Goff.

Blayne Thompson claimed the Pro 2 Lites win after making the pass on the class champion, Steve Gibson. Gibson held the early lead, but dropped back to a fourth-place finish when he started having issues with his motorcycle. Tristen Morris finished second, and Brandon Roberts finished third.
