In an off-road season that has seen top contenders from various series continue to string together win after win, Factory FMF/KTM rider and reigning AMA National Enduro Champion Charlie Mullins landed his fourth win of the Kenda AMA National Enduro Series, the Lead Belt National Enduro, hosted by the Missouri Mudders in Park Hills, Missouri, May 18. Mullins remains undefeated as the series heads toward its halfway point.

Rain on Wednesday and Thursday leading up to the Lead Belt National Enduro gave way to favorable course conditions at the Park Hills venue, and Mullins asserted his dominance right from the start by taking a commanding win in the first two special tests of the day. In the third section, Mullins got turned around on the trail and lost some time, carding fifth. His woes continued in the fourth section when he ran into rear brake issues and turned in another fifth place time.

With two sections to go, Mullins got back on track, earning the fastest section time in both special tests. By the end of the day, Mullins still earned the overall victory with a 1-minute and 33-second time advantage over second-place finisher Nick Fahringer.

“I’m really excited with how I am riding at the National Enduros this year,” Mullins said. “The course was pretty rocky today, but I enjoyed it and I am glad to gain another win.”

Factory Husqvarna’s Andrew DeLong and AirGroup Racing’s Fahringer did their best to unseat Mullins all day at the Lead Belt. Fahringer was able to post the fastest special test time in sections three and four while Mullins struggled. DeLong’s consistency left him second overall for most of the day, and he held a 9-second lead over Fahringer going into the fourth test. Crashes in tests four and five dropped DeLong to third overall, 2 minutes and 1 second behind Mullins.

N-Fab/Am Pro Yamaha’s Brad Bakken finished fourth overall, and Maxxis/Klim/DirtWise KTM’s Jesse Groemm finished fifth overall.
Now four rounds into the series, Mullins holds a 40-point lead in the championship point standings. The fifth round of the Kenda AMA National Enduro Series is scheduled to take place in Arrington, Virginia, June 1, 2014.
