Okay, so this infographic may not be all about dirtbikes, but some of these daredevil dudes are the reason a lot of people ride them today.

Check out this cool infographic from Fix.com and then ask yourself, what the heck does this have to do with dirtbikes?

The truth is, although motocross racers and fans probably wouldn’t admit it, our sport might look a lot different if it weren’t for the exploits of daring souls like the late Evel Knievel.

Now, the Evel one may have had a screw loose, or two…or three, but his ramp-to-ramp exploits in the late 1960s and early 1970s showed us all that it was possible to practically fly on a motorcycle. Sure, the Grand Prix motocross guys were already jumping their way around the tracks in Europe, but Evel’s high-flying antics really pushed the envelope. As this infographic shows, equally daring folks have been pushing that envelope ever since. Nowadays, supercross may be all the rage when it comes to gravity-defying showmanship, but long-distance, ramp-to-ramp jumping is still worthy of a mention.

Besides, these days it is all done on dirtbikes anyway!
