IRVINE, CALIF. (JULY 24, 2017)–The 2017 AMA EnduroCross Series is pleased to announce the addition of the Casey Folks Cup at round one of the seven round indoor off-road racing series. Honoring the legendary racer, dealer, race promoter and motorcycling ambassador, the Casey Folks Cup will be awarded to the winner of the EnduroCross Vet Class (35 years or older competitor) during the kick off event on August 19th inside the Orleans Arena EnduroCross.

The late Casey Folks will be honored at the opening round of the 2017 AMA EnduroCross Championship with the awarding of a cup bearing his name.

“Casey Folks lived a life most of us only dream about,” says Folks’ son, Daryl. “He was a participant, promoter and friend to off-road racers and the industry. As a racer, he competed in almost every type of off-road event throughout the Western United States and in several countries… and the tougher the event, the better Casey liked it!”

“Anyone even remotely connected to desert and off-road racing during the past 40 years knows the name Casey Folks,” said EnduroCross Director of Special Events, Lance Bryson. “We motorcyclists never had a more dedicated advocate! it is an honor to join the Folks family in the creation of the Casey Folks Cup.”

A Nevada Off-Road Hall of Fame member, Casey Folks was best known throughout the state and the racing community as the founder and driving force behind his successful Best In The Desert Racing Association series. During his own racing career he won 16 championships and competed in more than 30 races from Baja to the Tunisia Rally in North Africa. In 1980, he was the first to Ironman the Baja 1000 and finish. Casey is also remembered as the only racer to finish every Barstow-to-Vegas race.

“As a racer, Casey was as tough as they come,” said Folks. “As a promoter, he created memorable moments for thousands of racers and teams with spectacular events like a trio of 7-day 2000-mile Nevada Rallies in the 1990s, the 7-day 2000-mile Nevada 2000 race and two Nevada 1000 3-day races. On top of it all, he’s probably best known for the continuous running of America’s longest off-road race, the Vegas to Reno.

“We believe it is a very worthy tribute to my father, his family and friends that the Casey Folks Cup will recognize the toughest, most passionate Veteran racer on the EnduroCross track.”

“It’ll come as no surprise if our Casey Folks Cup winner may have one day taken a checkered flag waved by the man himself. It’s likely to happen,” added Bryson. Fittingly, the opening round will take place in Casey’s backyard at the venue where the first AMA EnduroCross event took place back in 2004, the Orleans Arena.

“As life goes on, and we continue to experience the passion of off-road racing, Casey’s legacy will live on,” concludes Daryl Folks. “On behalf of the Folks family, we will be honored to present the inaugural Casey Folks Cup on August 19th in Las Vegas.”
