With the 40th anniversary of the AMA Monster Energy Supercross, and FIM World Championship Series, all set to rock Angel Stadium tomorrow night, series promoter Feld Entertainment released a gaggle of interesting facts about the sport. Read up on them, and you’re sure to be able to impress your friends at any supercross tailgate or television party.

-The first points-paying supercross race was held on March 8, 1974. Pierre Karsmakers won on a Yamaha.

-Pierre Karsmakers went on to win the first ever Monster Energy Supercross Championship.

-Since 1974, there have been 572 races of Monster Energy Supercross.

-There have been 56 different winners of a Monster Energy Supercross Main Event.

-There have been 20 different winners of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship.

-This race marks the 61st time the gate will drop for a 450SX Class race in Anaheim.

-Angel Stadium, formerly known as Anaheim Stadium and later Edison Field, holds the record for most supercross races held and will become the first venue to host 61 races.

-Since 1974, Anaheim has hosted a Monster Energy Supercross race every year with the following exceptions: 1974, 1975 1980, 1988, 1997, and 1998.

-In 17 of 40 seasons, the winner of race one went on to win the championship.

-In 32 of 40 seasons, the champion appeared on the podium for the first race.

-Ryan Dungey gave KTM their first-ever win at Angel Stadium at the third race in Anaheim in 2013.

-At the third stop at Angel Stadium last year, KTM earned its first-ever sweep with Ken Roczen winning the 250SX Class.

-Since 2000, only three riders (James Stewart, Chad Reed and Ryan Villopoto) have won the opening race in back-to-back years.

-Honda won the opening race of the year in five consecutive seasons (1982-1986).

-Yamaha also won the opening race of the year in five consecutive seasons (2000-2004).

-Ryan Villopoto can become only the second rider in history to win four consecutive championships.

-Chad Reed and James Stewart are racing for their third championships

-Ryan Dungey is racing for his second championship
