Just because the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) will close the curtains on its 14th season with round nine of the 2014 Rocky Mountain MC World Off-Road Championship Series Presented by Motoworks and Dirt Bike at Buffalo Bill’s Resort and Casino in Primm, Nevada, October 17-19, that doesn’t mean the party is over.

In fact, not only does the series feature its final race at Primm, a two-time stop on the WORCS circuit, it also hosts its annual awards banquet right after the final event on Sunday. Even better for WORCS fans, the series has released a 2015 schedule that boasts some rather mysterious TBA venues. WORCS President Sean Reddish said that while the series already has a rich history, there is a lot more competition and good times to come.

“I cannot believe that Primm will complete our 14th year of racing,” Reddish said. “In all those miles there have been many memories, and for those that earn year-end awards it represents the culmination of a year of hard work.”

WORCS-2015schedule-10082014Reddish also said that his industry outlook for 2015 is very positive, bolstered by an energetic series sponsor base. As with every new season, there are changes afoot, most notably with the WORCS schedule. Reddish said that November 1 will mark the release of the TBA venues for the 2015 WORCS series. While the series will bid goodbye to its popular Lake Havasu City, Arizona, round, judging by Reddish’s enthusiasm, that’s no cause for concern.

“I see the momentum turning in our favor, and we are excited about 2015,” Reddish said. “We have two undisclosed venues on the schedule, and we will announce those in the near future. One is a replacement for our Lake Havasu, Arizona round, and the other is in the mountains. We may also be replacing a round with a new location at a casino.”

But that’s the future. The now includes a 2014 series in which the WORCS Championship will be decided at Primm. Gary Sutherland currently holds a formidable point lead over reigning WORCS Champion Robby Bell, but anything could happen, just like it already has this season. The title battle is down to these two men.

“This season has just been crazy as far as the competition goes,” Reddish said. “I really thought Bobby Bonds would be in the mix for the 2014 championship as well, but he ended up getting injured. But I think we couldn’t be happier for the two riders who are in the hunt for the WORCS Championship. Gary is a working man’s racer—he goes to work every day, and we are proud to see what he has accomplished. Robby is the quintessential professional in all aspects.”

Reddish said that the Primm course will be typical of past events there. That means it will be fast.

“The course will reward the guys who wick it,” Reddish said. “There are a lot of jumps, a lot of deep sand, and the braking bumps are pretty gnarly. The riders will be sharing the course with the ATVs, so that a different dynamic for the riders as well. Some riders prefer it, and some would rather not see that, but this something that we have done numerous times. You would tend to think that it would favor Robby Bell, yet Gary won the last round out there. If I had to guess, I would expect that Robby will probably win and Gary will play it conservatively because he wants that number-one plate, but who knows what will happen?”

The Primm finale will once again offer an incentive for first-time racers as well.

“Our Get-Back-to-Racing program has been a huge success, and it has worked so well this year that we will probably be continuing that during the 2015 season,” Reddish said. “It has increased our attendance 10 to 15% per round on average, and it’s our way of showing goodwill to new racers. If you are new racer, or if you are a returning racer who brings a friend, we discount your entry by 50%.”

And after the racing at Primm, it will be party time. Seating for this year’s banquet is limited to 800, and advance tickets are available through a special worcsracing.com web link.

“The banquet is always a good time,” Reddish said. “We have a lot of fantastic sponsors who put up over $40,000 in giveaways to the attendees. If you leave our banquet without winning something, you must have been in the bathroom the whole time!” [laughs]

Ready to celebrate the past. Optimistic for the future. That about sums up the WORCS attitude, according to Reddish.

“Our goal is and always will be to get racers to WORCS events and show them what a good time our brand of racing is,” Reddish said.
