While Land Speed Racing (LSR) may not appear to share a lot in common with dirtbike racing, the historic sport is carried out on a surface that is more akin to clay than asphalt. Here are 10 things you might not know about LSR.

Tired of the waiting game at Bonneville, Mike Akatiff and his Ack Attack team are currently headed to Bolivia to the Uyuni Salt Flats—the “Salar de Uyuni”—where the salt is over 4000 square feet and over a foot thick (dwarfing Bonneville’s 57 square miles, under an inch thick). Their private meet, dubbed the “Top of the World Land Speed Trial” will take place August 3-8. They are flying in the FIM to officiate and so far the course looks primo, so look for some fireworks from Bolivia next week!
