Fork_WP_AER48If you think that shaving over 7 lbs. off of their stock counterparts in 2015 was something special, check this out: KTM has very nearly done it again with its 2016 450 SX-F and 250 SX-F Factory Edition models, which are lighter than ever.

Using technology and feedback gleaned from KTM’s 2015 factory machines, the ’16 Factory Editions lose another 4 lbs. via the fitment of WP’s AER48 air fork and lighter mufflers. The 48mm fork features an air spring cartridge in the left leg and a damping cartridge in the right leg. The air pressure is held in a 34mm chamber with a single air valve, and the chamber design is encapsulated so that the fork will hold air even and not go flat even if the fork seal is compromised. On the damping side, 34mm pistons control the compression and rebound damping. The AER48 fork shaves 3.1 lbs. off of each Factory Edition machine. The lighter mufflers, an FMF on the 250 SX-F and an Akropovic on the 450 SX-F, shave about .9 lbs. each. Here are the technical highlights of both machines.
