6D may not yet have been around for as long as some of the other brands on our 6 Best DirtBike Helmets list, but there’s no question that the company has been pushing the envelope since it first entered the market.

Representing the top of 6D’s off-road helmet line, the ATR-1’s foundational technology is 6D’s revolutionary patented Omni-Directional Suspension (ODS), an in-helmet suspension and kinetic energy management system that effectively uncouples the helmet’s exterior shell from its EPS inner liner to minimize energy transfer to the head and brain of the rider during any impact event. The ODS consists of two EPS liners separated by an array of elastomeric isolation dampers that allow the system to sheer and displace three-dimensionally during an impact. 6D claims that the ODS is effective in dispersing energy during low-, mid- and high-velocity impacts over a much broader range than other helmet technologies.

Other ATR-1 safety features include a proprietary blend of advanced aerospace carbon fiber, composite fiberglass, and Kevlar on the shell, emergency release cheek pads, shear-away visor screws, clavical cutaways and a sternum pad for added protection of the chin, jaw and sternum. The ATR-1 interior sports a CoolMax anti-bacterial fabric comfort liner for comfort.

The 6D ATR-1 meets or exceeds ECE, DOT, ASTM, AU and AC standards.
