For Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo, the dream of winning the AMA Eastern Region 250cc Supercross title in his rookie season is over.

The promising Cianciarulo, who posted three wins and was leading the Eastern points standings coming into the Toronto Supercross last weekend, an injury to his left shoulder during practice. He showed the heart of a champion by trying to fight through the injury in the main event later that night, but the shoulder popped out during the main, and although the Asterisk Mobile Medical crew tried to assist Cianciarulo in rejoining the fray, he was forced to pull out of the race. Today, Cianciarulo underwent surgery to repair the shoulder, and he is expected to be out of action for three to four months.

“This setback is very disappointing,” Cianciarulo said in a Kawasaki press release. “We had a great start to the supercross season, and I wanted to win a championship for my Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team. As much as I would love to tough it out like I did last weekend, the people around me and I feel this is the best decision to fix my shoulder for good. I know I will come back stronger and ready to compete as soon as I can.”

The 17-year-old Cianciarulo can stlll take heart in the fact that he got off to a spectacular start by winning his Monster Energy Supercross debut, and he proved it was no fluke by scoring two more wins and finishing on the podium in his first five supercross starts.

In Cianciarulo’s abesence, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki still has a strong shot at claiming the Eastern Region 250cc Supercross Championship as Venezuelan rider Martin Davalos currently leads the standings.
