SCORE-Baja-500-2015-Logo-4-28-15After leaving the starting line first from Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, the Ox Motorsports 5X Honda team has suffered a major blow to its hopes for victory in the Bud Light SCORE Baja 500.

According to team accounts, rider Justin Jones crashed at approximately Race Mile 98, and initial reports are that he suffered a broken leg. SCORE race tracking shows that the 5X machine has not moved for the past two hours. Jones took over the 5X from the team’s lead rider Mark Samuels at Race Mile 58 and was expected to ride the section of the course that led through La Rumorosa and along the Laguna Salada before handing the bike back to Samuels.

Ox Motorsports Honda’s misfortune has allowed the Monster Energy/Precision Concepts THR Motorsports 1x Kawasaki team of Max Eddy Jr., Justin Morgan and Ian Young to pull a massive physical lead over the rest of the motorcycles on the course.

As of 12:30 p.m., the team was safely through Race Mile 300, well ahead of Monkey Business 13X Honda team of John Winkelman, Ricky De La Pena, Austin Miller and Paul Lopez, and the Hansen McCoy Investments 19X Honda team of Scott Myers, Damon Myers and Kreg McCoy and Chris Ridgway. However, the 45X Francesco Arredondo, Ryan Dudek, Ryan Penhall and Shane Esposito may be running as high as second place in the race, although their position cannot currently be confirmed via SCORE race tracking.
