Five-time AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Champion Rodney Smith is set to be inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Orlando, Florida, October 17.

Smith will be inducted in the Off-Road category in recognition of his numerous accomplishments in the racing. Ironically, he first popped onto the radar screen in American motorcycle racing as a motocross racer when he finished third in the 1988 Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme 250cc Motocross World Championship. Smith returned to America in 1990 and came to dominate the discipline, earning 13 AMA-sanctioned National Championship titles, including five GNCC titles, three AMA National Championship Hare Scrambles titles and five AMA National Reliability Enduro Championships. Smith remained active in top-level competition through 2004, when he earned his historic fifth GNCC title at age of 40.

Today, Smith continues to compete in select events. He most recently contested the 2015 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL, at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, where he finished an impressive second overall (2-2-1) in the Masters 50+ division.

The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame was founded in 1990 to provide a permanent home that celebrates and preserves the rich tradition of motorcycling in America through the recognition of the sport’s greatest heroes. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is open to the public and tickets may be purchased here for $25 per person. For the second consecutive year, the ceremony will take place in conjunction with the AIMExpo, which brings together consumers, dealers and manufacturers in one location for global product launches, demo riders, motorcycling seminars and more. VIP tickets are also available that include an exclusive reception, reserved seating and the AIMExpo show admission for the price of $90 per person.
