The 88th running of the International Six Days of Enduro (ISDE) is scheduled to kick off tomorrow on the Italian island of Sardinia with opening ceremonies. Arguably the premier off-road motorcycle event in the world, the 2013 ISDE will take place exactly 100 years from the inaugural event, which was held in Carlisle in the United Kingdom.

Tomorrow’s opening ceremonies will a include parade of the competing nations, 630 competitors on hand from all over the world, representing 36 countries and joined by 140 Club Teams. The actual competition begins September 30 and concludes on October 5. The competitors, which are divided among 40 classes, will cover a total of 1500 kilometers (931.5 miles) through Olbia, Tempio Pausania, Golfo Aranci, Alà dei Sardi, Arzachena, Calangianus, Loiri Porto San Paolo, Padru, Sant’Antonio di Gallura and Telti. Along the way, the event will include 15 special tests, culiminating in the EICMA Final Event, the final test on the “Sergio Bruschi” cross track in Tempio Pausania, which will crown the winning country.

Defending ISDE Champions France are favored to retain their 2012 title, but the French team will face stiff competition from multiple nations, including Australia, Finland and host country Italy. Although it is not typically favored to do well in the ISDE, Team USA will be fielding one its most potent teams ever to contest the event.

Team USA World Trophy Team
The World Trophy Team consists of six riders who compete in all three displacement classes contested in the ISDE. The E1 class features 100cc to 125cc two-stroke and 175cc to 250cc four-stroke motorcycles; the E2 class features 175cc to 250cc two-stroke and 290cc to 450cc four-stroke motorcycles; and the E3 class features 290cc to 500cc two-stroke and 475cc to 650cc four-stroke motorcycles. Team USA’s 2013 World Trophy Team includes, Mike Brown (KTM), Kurt Caselli (KTM), Thad Duvall (Hon), Charlie Mullins (KTM), Zach Osborne (Hon) and Taylor Robert (Kaw).

Team USA Junior Trophy Team
The Junior Trophy Team consists of four riders under 23 years of age, per event rules. competing in a minimum of two classes. Team USA’s 2013 Junior Trophy Team includes Grant Baylor (KTM), Andrew Delong (Hus), Jesse Groemm (Yam) and Kailub Russell (KTM).

Team USA Women’s Trophy Team

The Women’s Trophy Team includes three riders: Rachel Gutish, Brooke Hodges, Mandi Mastin. Also part of the U.S. team are members on various club teams made up of riders from all over the country.
