Ronnie Renner came into today’s X Games Step Up competition at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, as the most decorated competitor in the history of the event, and when the high-flying jump contest was over, he tallied yet another gold medal.

The veteran Renner had to out-jump some tough competition in the six-rider Step UP field, which included Josh Hansen, Massimo Bianconcini, Matt Buyten, Libor Podmol and Bryce Hudson. All six riders had ho trouble in the early rounds, each of them clearing the crossbar at the 24, 26, 28 and 30-foot bar heights. Surprisingly, Buyten, a four-time Step Up gold medalist, failed to clear the 32-foot mark and was the first rider to be eliminated. Bianconcini and Hansen went out at 33 feet, but Podmol survived a wild landing to stay alive after clearing the 33-foot mark. Podmol then failed to clear the 33-f00t, 6-inch height in the next round, but earning a bronze medal for his efforts.

That left Hudson and Renner, but Hudson failed in his two attempts at 34 feet. Renner, who was easily clearing the bar to that point, just as easily leaped over the 34-foot height to grab his sixth career X games gold medal, successfully defending the event championship he earned lat year at the Los Angeles X Games. Renner eventually stalled out at 38 feet, six inches, but he still holds the current height record of 47 feet, which he set in 2012.
