Fortunately for American Speedway fans, Billy Hamill’s family moved across the street from the speedway-crazy Cardona brothers in Duarte, California in the 1970s. He began racing Junior Speedway in 1983 and within seven years was a member of the famous Cradley Heath team in England. He won the World Championship in 1996 and was runner up in 1997 and 2000. In 1995 and 1996, he topped the British League rider averages. He also is the proud owner of four World Team Cup gold medals and seven U.S. National Championship trophies. He was as ferocious on the track as he was laid back off it.
